KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop value added/processed food products. Analysis of food samples for microbial and other impurities to ensure products meet Kenya Bureau of Standards. Evaluate and recommend bio-fortification to improve nutritional value and texture, and food additives to improve colour, flavor of food products. Working closely with other food microbiologists, food processing specialists and consumers. Setting safety and quality standards in food processing. Work closely with breeders / plant scientists to ensure crops developed have the consumer preferred nutritional value, and processing qualities Capturing food processing technology research needs across the agriculture value chain actors. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Diploma in in Food Science and Technology or equivalent qualification from recognized institution. BSc/MSc in Food Science and Technology, and previous experience in food processing skills will be an added advantage. Certificate in computer application from a recognized institution. Successful candidates will be required to have to have police clearance. OHER COMPETENCIES Knowledge in agricultural food processing. Good knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Skills in testing and identification of food microorganism and other impurities inconformity with Kenya Bureau of Standards. Knowledge in bio-fortification and food additives to improve food products. Skills in safety and quality standards in food processing. Skills in marketing of processed products. Being a confident independent worker and a team player.
